In Bird Box, brilliantly imaginative debut author Josh Malerman captures an apocalyptic near-future world, where a mother and her two small children must make their way down a river, blindfolded. One wrong choice and they will die. And something is following them -- but is it man, animal, or monster? Within these tracks, Malerman, a professional musician, discusses his love of horror and invokes an ethereal and atmospheric experience in an homage to Orson Welles à la War of the Worlds.

Intense submitted by emjane on July 1, 2015, 6:04pm It's the tension more than the description that makes this book so scary-- one to avoid reading after dark. With curt, basic prose, and an intriguing premise, this book doesn't disappoint.

Hard to rate submitted by darla on July 2, 2015, 7:59pm I picked up a copy of Bird Box based on a review claiming it was creepy, and the fact that the author lives here in Michigan. It WAS creepy, at times, but also ridiculous and hard to believe at other times. It's a quick read and takes a unique ride on the whole "dystopian/end of the world as we know it" train. Would I give it 5 stars? Probably not. Honestly, reading this book gave me the same feeling as watching an M. Night Shyamalan film, and I've never been able to explain my feelings on those films either.

A Fun Read submitted by diannal on June 26, 2017, 2:26pm I enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it.

Audiobook was too creepy submitted by jmb.mlis on July 16, 2018, 12:30am I started out listening to this in audio, but it was just too suspenseful for me and I switched to the print version. Very well done! My book club loved talking about it!

Bird Box submitted by lawrencekl57 on July 31, 2020, 10:09am I'm still trying to decide whether I liked the book or the movie better. Both were excellent.

Surprisingly good submitted by tingzhaoum on July 22, 2023, 11:18am I didn't really like horror, but this book was good.
