Love it submitted by yugure on October 24, 2012, 11:58am Mac Barnett is a name to watch in children's picture books, and how could he possibly go wrong with Jon Klassen (author of the hilarious I Want My Hat Back) on board as illustrator? This is a wonderful picture book worth checking out.

A Winner submitted by manz on January 17, 2013, 3:25pm A wonderful, beautiful picture book with a knitting theme. A great readaloud for the kiddies. I'd love to have a box that contained a neverending ball of yarn. I guess then I'd have to learn how to knit.

beautiful submitted by fairytale on July 31, 2013, 5:52pm What a beautiful story. The illustrations are incredible too. Amazing!

Not so great submitted by rimpopu on July 25, 2014, 6:15am I don't see how anyone could praise this book so much. The illustrations all look similar like a bunch of leaves. The story starts interesting with a girl finding a box of never-ending yarn. No matter how much she knits there is always some leftover which gets her started again. So far it gets the children curious as to what is going to happen. Then comes an archduke who ends up stealing the box. My children immediately went 'That is not good'. Ok, we can take a bit of the darker side to the story. But what I really didn't like the language used by the archduke when he gets upset "Little girl, I curse you with my family's curse! You will never be happy again." What sort of language is that to read to the children? The author could have used a better language to express the bitterness of the archduke. Although the story has a happy ending, my children were shocked and upset, and didn't want me to read it again. I didn't want to read to them either. Some adults and children may be ok with such language, and may even find it funny. But it could upset others. I wouldn't read it aloud to a whole classroom.

Extra Yarn submitted by SBNB on August 19, 2017, 7:43pm My daughter and I enjoyed this book. The pictures are nice, all black and white except for the colorful yarn.

Cute submitted by bookworms on June 25, 2018, 4:48pm This book is very cute! It is about a little girl that finds a box of yarn that never seems to run out. She knits things for the whole town, and she still has EXTRA YARN! Eventually, the Archduke decides that he wants this magical box of yarn. Read to find the ending!

The story itself is very simple, but it is cute! Especially with the drawings in black and white with the yarn in color!

Another Hit from This Great Duo submitted by Meginator on July 4, 2022, 9:12am This simple picture book tells a fairy tale of sorts with a gentle moral at its heart about greed. The text and the illustrations work really well together, with Jon Klassen’s knitted textures leaping off of the page and providing a visual accent that directly reflects the story’s progression. The story has less overt humor than most of the creators’ other works, but it is still a lovely little picture book with broad appeal.
