Behold the dreamers submitted by laverne jackson barker on August 24, 2017, 8:31pm This was a great read a view point of the immigration process from Cameroon families 's prospective...a two day read for me.

Mixed feelings submitted by sushai on June 30, 2019, 10:04am A good read, to be sure, especially the audio version.
Such an interesting read about immigrants coming to America and struggling to work to support their family, while waiting to see if their application for asylum is accepted or not. I really liked the juxtaposition of Jende and Neni, from Cameroon, with Clark and Cindy, the rich US couple they work for.
The problem for me as a reader came in when I realized Jende and Neni were hard to root for after a point. Both had large character flaws that made them hard to relate to and harder to support, so I started to realize I didn't care that much how their story would end up. Maybe that loss of empathy for the main characters as the story goes on is intentional in some part on the author--I'm sure every immigrant family is not all pure virtue and kindness--in the same way that any person is not perfect--but I did find by the end that I was only kind of rooting for them while still thinking the US system of immigration is broken and our policies badly need updating.
I did like the author, though, as well as the story. Just not that much the people involved...
