Smart girl submitted by Bookeepers on July 13, 2017, 6:19am Great at portraying a smart and motivated female character.

Great for my daughters submitted by alicimez on June 28, 2018, 8:43pm My 7 & 5-year-old daughters ask for this story frequently. I love that it rhymes but the ideas and words are beyond those of a normal picture book. Ada seems behind in her cognitive development but it was because she was observing everything around her she didn't have anything to say! She spoke her first word at the age of 3 and is one of the smartest kids.

Girl science role models submitted by halliejewell on August 16, 2018, 8:39am Great book encouraging kids to be curious. I especially love that the source of the stink was not resolved but left for the readers to consider and discuss.

Good Idea, Meh Execution submitted by Meginator on June 21, 2020, 4:14pm I liked the idea of this book more than its execution. The rhyming text sometimes struggles to find its rhythm and the story feels a little disjointed, never really coming together into a coherent plotline. I was also appalled that the idea of putting a cat in a dryer was played for laughs at a time when the reader is supposed to feel sympathy for Ada and emulate her actions; I really hope no one emulates this particular experiment. That said, the illustrations are generally good and often add a bit of subtle humor (check out Ada’s discarded additions to the family’s Solar System and her brother’s general weariness); one memorable spread involving a rainbow of exploding soda bottles is particularly lively. It’s great to see a young girl of color in a starring STEAM role, but I found myself disappointed in this book given all of its accolades.
