Rating Babel-17 submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 16, 2021, 8:53pm First published in 1978, parts of this story hold up in 2020 and parts do not. I detest Delaney’s description of the main character as autistic. What he is describing is not autism. If, however, that one label was removed and everything else was left in place about the book, I would have loved it and given it a full 5 stars. The characters are fantastic. The mystery is wonderful. The arc of the story is excellent, and the resolution, while I did piece together parts of it, was beautifully mastered and written, and a pleasure to read.
Absolutely delightful submitted by edaviscraig on July 27, 2024, 10:00am A wonderful book about a genius linguist who puts together a ragtag spaceship crew in order to investigate a mysterious coded transmission. Some of the characters and concepts will feel familiar to scifi fans; others are entirely novel. Plus the found family vibes and queer themes will certainly still resonate. I was sad to see the book end because I would have been happy to continue journeying through the stars with these characters for much longer.
