Summary / Annotation
Wonderful Feminist Series submitted by majean on August 23, 2018, 3:28pm A fun adventure series with strong - intentionally - feminist overtones. (Baum was a feminist, and his mother-in-law was suffragist Matilda Joslyn Gage.) In fact, the characters' "unconventional" gender roles got the book banned by many in the early 20th century. (Females are supposed to be rescued by males, not the other way around!) The entire series if full of strong, independent, self-reliant female characters who don't need a man to save them.
