Riviting submitted by pandangel12 on June 22, 2011, 11:07am This book really "spoke" to me when I read it. I can sense Melissas feeling althroughout this book.

Intense submitted by bfreiband on July 8, 2011, 3:05pm This is a really good book, but not the best I've ever read. It has a good plot, and is in general very well written. This is a book that I would suggest for high school students and up, but no one younger.

Awesome submitted by 04foremanh on July 29, 2012, 1:02pm This book really lives up to its tittle

Wow submitted by alumeng.ajl on July 30, 2012, 3:56pm This is really intense! It's a beautifully written story, but it terrifies me.

Unbelievable submitted by zidrissu on August 20, 2013, 2:53pm This book is something special and its not for the fant of heart. It really gets you emotionally involved and you can definitely believe Laurie Halse Anderson, the author, is talented.

Like being back in high school submitted by mjanen on June 13, 2015, 7:17pm Good story. Sets the mood well. The art teacher is a bit too cliche.

Powerful submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 2, 2015, 3:12pm Wow. Definitely not a book for younger than a middle schooler, or more likely a high schooler. YMMV, but screen carefully. This is a hard, hard book.

Without giving anything away, it's about a 9th grader whose life is turned upside down in the worst way, who is depressed and has become the school pariah. It is phenomenally written, and takes you right inside her head and heart. If you are an adult, it will make you ache. If you ever had a hard time in life, you will relate, whether or not her story is yours. It is powerful... the kind of book that teaches you to understand the world from someone else's eyes.

If your life is in a place where you can read a hard (emotional) thing, read it.

important submitted by GwenC on July 20, 2018, 1:03pm A very important book to read. Sometimes had to take a break while reading it.

Good submitted by Stinglikeawalrus on July 27, 2019, 5:00pm Despite it's tough subject, it's a pretty easy read. But it's also very intense at times. I first read this . with my English class in high school and loved it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for people younger than that. The main character is a little whiny and annoying at times, but you can totally see where she's coming from. I think it's a very important book and everyone should read it.

Speak submitted by Varshini on July 30, 2019, 2:26am Laurie Halse Anderson is a great writer! I read through this book easily. It deals with some tough subjects, and I think it widened my perspective.

A must read submitted by autumnmist on August 15, 2019, 7:17pm This book is heartbreaking. A tough subject that is a must-read.

highly recommended for teens and adults, especially adults who work with teens submitted by nemiller on July 30, 2021, 10:05pm The best YA book I've read in a very long time. Even if you know the "spoiler," I highly recommend it. Anderson has gotten the voice of a clever and unhappy teen down perfectly. This should be required reading in high school.
