""Growing up, I wanted to BE Mara Wilson. Where Am I Now? is a delight."--Ilana Glazer, cocreator and star of Broad City "Genuine and authentic, funny and heartbreaking, Where Am I Now? reminds you that no matter how unique your life is, some things bind us all together." --Jenny Lawson, author of Furiously Happy A former child actress best known for her starring roles in Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire, Mara Wilson has always felt a little young and out of place: as the onlykid on a film set full of adults, the first daughter in a house full of boys, a Valley girl in New York and a neurotic in California, and a grown-up the world still remembers as a little girl. Tackling everything fromwhat she learned about sex on the set of Melrose Place, to discovering in adolescence that she was no longer "cute" enough for Hollywood, these essays chart her journey from accidental fame to relative (but happy) obscurity. They also illuminate universal struggles, like navigating love and loss, and figuring out who you are and where you belong. Honest, insightful, and hilarious, Where Am I Now? introduces Mara Wilson as a brilliant new chronicler of the experience that is growing up young and female"-- Provided by publisher.

Not your typical "star" bio submitted by emjane on June 17, 2017, 9:46am Mara Wilson is a funny, meaningful, insightful writer. Perfect read for women in their late teens and early 20s, particularly if they are facing challenges.
More Than Matilda submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 9:20am This book is more of an essay collection than a typical, story-driven memoir, but that makes its insights all the more effective as Mara Wilson explores the elusive nature of childhood fame and the far more relatable perils of growing up and dealing with issues like dating, finding your place in the world, dealing with loss, and coping with mental illness. She is very funny but also very capable of tugging at the heartstrings, particularly in chapters dealing with her mother’s terminal illness (which coincided with the filming of Matilda, Wilson’s most famous role) and with Wilson’s relationship with Robin Williams, written shortly after his suicide. Anyone who follows Wilson on Twitter will know how skilled she is, but this collection reveals a depth to her talent that is remarkable and has me eager to read anything she cares to write.
