Sad but beautiful story submitted by Jinxyluis on July 22, 2018, 1:46am An achingly beautiful, sad and hopeful book. I loved LaCour's prose, and Marin's voice and thoughtfulness.
Absolutely Amazing submitted by zora on July 13, 2020, 12:21pm Almost all of the pages in the last third of this book have tear stains from when I was reading this book. I was sobbing my eyes out in a not so pretty cry and it felt so good. The way that this book portrayed grief was heartbreaking and truthfully and is one of the best I have ever read. "We Are Okay" was much better than her previous book that I have read, "Hold Still" and I was really happy to see that I enjoyed this book more. One of my favorite things about this story is that it takes place in a short time frame in a mostly secluded location where the main character is forced to face her problems. I would say that this is not a book for someone that reads books solely for the plot, this book is likely to seem pointless or boring to a reader that isn't reading for the characters. While reading I was sure I was going to give this book four stars but by the last third I was truly torn apart inside, I don't know if it was when I read this or just the book but books that make me feel so much deserve five stars.
Great submitted by Stinglikeawalrus on July 1, 2021, 12:56am It does start off a little slow and you can be a little confused for some parts when the time switches. But, it is a very beautiful and heartbreaking story that'll make you think about the importance of chosen family and very well portrays both being a young queer person and having depression. The last few chapters are one of those parts where there will just be a constant tear or two running down your cheek.
okay...book submitted by umich.reader on June 12, 2022, 4:19pm Sad and a beautiful love story, but a little slow.
