Wonderful and funny submitted by Lucy S on June 29, 2018, 4:46pm Andrew Sean Greer has created an endearing character in Arthur Less, who embarks on a world wide trip to avoid his ex's wedding. Told with much humor, this memorable book was very deserving of its 2018 Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
Delightful submitted by flemingj on July 21, 2018, 12:11pm So funny and sweet!
A story about a man that I would like to know submitted by eamcdon on July 23, 2019, 10:48am Arthur Less is a amazing but unremarkable person, like many of us. We get to know his loves and disappointments through a funny and heartfelt story.
Fun and great writing! submitted by 21621031390949 on June 15, 2020, 11:09am Love this book! Very amusing, excellent writing, whimsical and just what I needed to read in the middle of the pandemic.
simple, sweet story submitted by apknapp on August 11, 2020, 3:19pm There's really not much to this, but it's somehow charming nonetheless. You find yourself rooting for Arthur Less, a protagonist who is anyone and everyone--a bit lost, a bit disappointed, a bit lovable.
Funny yet thoughtful submitted by ellaenshake on June 18, 2021, 12:48pm I really enjoyed this! The main character is funny, a bit insufferable, and relatable to the worst parts of yourself. The story is interesting and it was engaging to read.
One-note submitted by ferielp on July 23, 2021, 9:40am The narrator travels and explores his failing relationships and floundering career and sense of self. All this would have been more interesting if he had had different and new realizations at each stop on his tour, however, it feels like the same thing over and over, chapter after chapter.
In crescendo submitted by elenalibro on August 21, 2021, 7:23am After reading all previous reviews I was expecting a hilarious book since the first pages, instead I started to enjoy it only after few chapters. I couldn't like the character but at a certain point I started to love the writing and I found it more and more engaging. Good book that for me went in crescendo.
Impersonal submitted by ctconley on August 11, 2022, 3:20pm Not the most engaging book, and felt a bit detatched from any character's feelings.
This won the Pulitzer?! submitted by apf1950 on September 30, 2022, 8:42pm I've read plenty of gay fiction, although mainly mysteries. This was absolute drudgery, like standing in a grocery line. I quit about two-thirds of the way through. Don't waste your time.
Enjoyed it submitted by A2Doug2 on June 19, 2023, 12:04pm I love how Greer decided to take his writing less seriously, tried his first comedy, and won a Pulitzer. A nice parallel story for Less, who is having his "I'm 50, what now?" moment. Always try new things, and don't invest a lot of high stakes in them.
