""Intricate and extraordinary." - New York Times on The Fifth Season THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS... FOR THE LAST TIME. The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women. Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe. For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed. The remarkable conclusion to the post-apocalyptic and highly acclaimed trilogy that began with the multi-award-nominated The Fifth Season. Rock Solid Conclusion submitted by brielle on July 11, 2018, 7:24pm This was a satisfying conclusion to an excellent trilogy. While not as engrossing as the first novel, I really enjoyed the multiple perspectives and appreciated how loose ends were tied up.

Glad I read it... compelling story submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 27, 2019, 5:03pm 3/5 stars. Meh. I'm glad I read the conclusion of the trilogy, but I enjoyed each book less than the first. In the end, I think for this series it's that Jemisin excelled at the world-building and relationship-building that encompassed the whole of the first book, and once these were set, the story itself didn't have as much to offer (which is weird, because obviously the story is compelling). I think I just found the first book a more compelling story-telling than the second or the third, despite my interest in what would happen. I'm still glad I read the whole thing.

Excellent second book submitted by Princess Cimorene on July 21, 2020, 12:49am This whole series is so unique. Each book lingered in my mind for a long time. I like that how this book deepened the story from the first book, and raised more and more questions, revealed more about how the world works, and got me continually more invested in what happened to the characters.

Fantastic Conclusion! submitted by KatieD on August 19, 2021, 11:32am Third books in trilogies always make me nervous, because it wraps up everything and sometimes it just doesn't live up to the rest of the trilogy. Not the case here! Jemisin fills in the missing parts of the back story and brings the story to a compelling and emotional conclusion!
