Fame and success come at a cost for Natasha "Tash" Zelenka when she creates the web series "Unhappy Families," a modern adaptation of Anna Karenina--written by Tash's eternal love Leo Tolstoy.
Natasha "Tash" Zelenka creates a web series, "Unhappy Families," a modern adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina. Tash gets forty-thousand new subscribers, and the series is nominated for a Golden Tuba award. She begins a cyber-flirtation with fellow award nominee Thom Causer, but needs to figure out how to tell him that she's a romantic asexual. What would Tolstoy do?

I Heart Old Books and New Media submitted by lcbuday on July 19, 2018, 11:49pm I don't know what I did to deserve finding so many great YA contemporaries lately, but I'm sure glad I did it. "Tash Hearts Tolstoy" is a magnificent look at what it means to be seventeen and in love with new media, and is chock-full of all my favorite things: internet fame, classic literature, complicated friendships, and awesome queer characters. This book left me yearning for more in a really interesting way-- yearning for more EVERYTHING. I want to run out and read long Russian novels, and search my favorite Tumblr hashtags, and make a web series, and watch a web series. Really, what I love about this book is how it seems to engage with life in the same way that I do.
Okay submitted by zmclaugh on July 29, 2018, 12:05pm I liked the geeky web series stuff. I did not like the rather clunky love triangle and the conclusion.
Great representation submitted by Xris on June 30, 2021, 10:36am I run a GSA and I'm glad I read this book to understand Aces better. I read it in one day, and was drawn in immediately. And I totally ship Pash! (Wish I had gotten a bit more of that at the end.) Will recommend to my club!
