Fear, Anxiety, Trauma submitted by corywill86 on June 18, 2019, 4:23pm My 3yo loved this book. For months after we returned it, he'd ask for it. It's really amazing at telling the story of how something scary happens and even though our bodies are okay, our minds can get stuck. Strong recommendation for any kids who have issues with anxiety and fear.

An Exploration of Trauma For All Ages submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 4:30pm This book gently but directly deals with the impact of trauma, using the familiar story of Humpty Dumpty to examine the difficult process of putting yourself back together even when everything seems okay on the outside. Dan Santat is an absolute master of visual perspective, putting readers directly in Humpty Dumpty’s shoes as he faces the famous wall and frequently varying page layouts to enhance the effect of the text and convey additional nuance. The story works on multiple levels, as a clever re-imagining of a classic rhyme and as an exploration of trauma that shows readers a way forward while acknowledging how utterly impossible that can seem. This is a great choice for readers of all ages.

Charming and Heartfelt Story, with a message submitted by purchasingqueen on June 11, 2023, 11:22am This story has many layers and is poignant on several levels. Based on the traditional children's tale, Humpty Dumpty, this is a story about courage and not giving up. Children will enjoy this seemingly simple tale with a joyful outcome. Then, there are the small details within the story that adults will appreciate (the egg 'sitting' on the edge of the wall's shadow, before he is able to tackle the actual wall, etc.). The illustrations, as always in a Dan Santat book, are beautiful. The two-page spread with the bird wings is thought-provoking and heartwarming at the same time. When Dan Santat spoke at the 2023 A2CAF, he said that this story was also written with his wife in mind. He shared that she struggled for a time, until she got help with her personal issues, and then 'spread her wings' once she did. Knowing that, the story takes on even more meaning. A heartfelt story all will enjoy. I highly recommend adding this to your bookshelf, both for your children and yourself.
