Own Stories Are The Best Stories submitted by majean on July 19, 2020, 7:27pm The contributors to this collection all have unique stories, but they speak of the same dissonance created when one lives in the borderland between what society can easily pigeonhole. I have passed for different things in my life that I am not, both for my own safety and when it's just easier, and it is never comfortable. More people need to be aware that their fellow humans may be going through this.
A New Perspective on Diversity submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 8:56am This essay collection deals with a lot of heavy topics about identity and perception, and is thus best approached in small doses, but it is an excellent anthology that will make you think deeply about the meaning(s) of identity and, indeed, passing. Each writer tackles the topic from a unique, personal angle, giving the anthology pleasant variety even as they discuss similar topics. Most of the essays deal primarily with racial identities, though others explore gender, sexuality, and class. Though it’s not perfect, this book offers a lot of opportunities for self-reflection and jumping-off points for understanding the diversity of experiences within the U.S.
