Prairie Fires submitted by SBNB on July 15, 2020, 10:57pm It was interesting at times, but mostly I couldn't get into it.

not submitted by johnbiancke on July 25, 2020, 12:55pm Not very warm and fuzzy - don't expect the TV series

A bit dense submitted by emroon on July 15, 2023, 11:00pm Learned A LOT. I will say it was quite sense and a bit drawn out, could have used some editing. Was fascinating to learn about the Ingalls and Wilders lives and the edits/viewpoints that were infused into the classic books. Rose Wilder seems like she was a train wreck.

Skip it submitted by AndAReaderToo on July 1, 2024, 11:46pm This book starts out as an apologist reply to Pioneer Girl, wherein Laura Ingalls Wilder is painstakingly revealed to have fabricated much of the stories she published, in collaboration with her daughter, to make a buck. Pioneer Girl made such a splash that this book appears to be a rapid response piece, attempting to reestablish LIW as the iconic figure she was known as for much of the past century. If you want the fictionalized stories, read the original series. If you want a family air-brushed version of history, read this. If you want a more historically accurate, thoroughly documented account of how the stories came to be, read Pioneer Girl.
