Always something new when you study it submitted by Pshanks6 on March 30, 2017, 6:56am I was attracted first to the colors, then the subject matter.

I had this hanging on the wall during my studies in drawing and found it to be an extremely interesting composition to dissect looking at the canvas armature (grid and angles). It was also very intriguing when you start breaking down geometric shapes and following the rhythm of the painting. There was always something new to look at, another way to examine and enjoy the painting.

I equate appreciating this painting to appreciating jazz. Some people are comfortable with the rhythms and improvisations, sensing the underlying structure and patterns. Other people prefer Bach--ordered and expected--delivered with military precision that brings joy from the very mathematical genius of the composition.

Neither way is "better" than the other. Both rely on math and your ability to pay attention and find the secrets in the paintings.
