COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Good enough submitted by CasualTim on October 21, 2010, 7:02pm I haven't read the book, but this movie had a unique enough look and feel to make up for a few moments of paper-thin drama and a somewhat disappointing ending. It's very rigid in hitting every piece of the puzzle, which, for the most part, feels more like a tribute to its audience than a lack of writing proficiency. For me, approval comes from something subtle; there's something original in the set design and possibly photography that I can't quite put a finger on. It was fun to watch, and with Murray, Robbins, and Crook, sometimes felt, rather than a major motion picture, a bit more like longtime friends re-enacting a local mythology.

Oh, and if, like me, you saw Saoirse Ronan in "The Lovely Bones" and thought 'there is just something creepy about her,' not to worry. That effect must have come from Peter Jackson, because it's not present in City.

okay submitted by honordenver on June 20, 2012, 10:38pm i liked this movie i watched it in class before reading the book so i probably missed out some

Okay submitted by pepemama on August 14, 2019, 12:23pm The book is better but this is fine

It's Fun submitted by majean on August 2, 2020, 9:59pm This often pops up on must-see steampunk movie lists, so I gave it a shot. I think the underground world is well thought out and interesting. I see why people call it steampunk, but I don't think it's a strong claim.
