Spoiler Alert: Stay Away! submitted by GJBarnett2 on June 22, 2016, 10:27pm Have you ever seen the 1936 movie "Flash Gordon" in which the carnal intentions of the villainous Ming The Merciless for Flash's virginal girlfriend, Dale Arden, were "fig-leafed" by the pretense that he wanted to "marry" her? How times have changed! If graphic explicit images of beatings, floggings, torture, branding, sexual abuse and rape, including violent homosexual anal rape by a sadistic psychopath are your cup of tea, this series is right up your alley, so to speak. If not, spare yourself the experience. Nothing, literally nothing, is left to the imagination. And for God's sake don't let your kids bring this home!

4 of 5 stars. submitted by cullerth on July 5, 2018, 10:58pm This is based on the first book in Diana Gabaldon's ambitious series by the same name. I say ambitious because there is a lot involved here: time travel, traipses through 18th century Scotland, and of course romance - in the form of a complicated love triangle with one foot in the past and the other in the present (err...future?). I'll admit that I almost didn't make it through the book: some of the romantic plot points were a bit cheesy or downright problematic for me But power through I did, and I liked it well enough to check out the TV adaptation. I think the television show did a wonderful job with classing things up and tying loose threads together from the book. I was a bit wary of their casting of the actor that plays Jamie, but he has grown on me. Overall, worth a watch. In fact, this is one rare instance where you can skip the book and go straight to the dvd.

Not as good as the first half of S1 submitted by EJZ on July 21, 2018, 9:15am I enjoyed the slow build and burn of the first arc of Season one a lot, but once the romance was consummated I feel like the characters move more on momentum than anything else. Also this could have been a lot less graphic for my taste.

Love submitted by kbahleda on July 23, 2018, 10:07am Love the adaptation from the book

Outlander. Season 1, Volume 2 submitted by lstorc on July 6, 2019, 8:59pm This is a disgusting show all about power via rape and social cast.

Historically accurate submitted by majean on July 27, 2019, 2:33pm History is rarely pretty. The amount of research that went into this story is evident, and I think it does a good job of empowering the characters in a hostile world.

Great historical fiction & time travel submitted by crp on August 5, 2019, 8:47pm Great historical fiction & romance & time travel

Love this series submitted by dree411 on August 31, 2019, 12:26pm It is a fantastic interpretation of the book - and, just like today, history was not always pretty.

Off-putting submitted by parlettes on July 17, 2020, 11:55pm Frankly, I couldn't even finish the season. Rape, or threats of rape towards the women and men are constantly used to move the plot. This show goes from cheesy and gooey to graphic and distasteful. If I wanted to watch something as graphically violent, I would watch a war movie.

Volume 2 submitted by JHermanowski on July 18, 2020, 6:29am Not consistent with book, but transitioned fine. Continues to be very frustrating series, difficult to watch at times, but very entertaining.
