Fun movie submitted by willow on July 26, 2014, 10:21pm This is an enjoyable movie based on the Steig book, but bearing only general resemblance to it. It fleshes out the story enormously and makes Shrek a more interesting character. It's funny, with a fair amount of juvenile humor, but a warm heart.

Funny submitted by tshish on August 9, 2015, 12:43am Really good

Great movie submitted by Duckling on August 5, 2018, 1:10am This movie is honestly one of the best kids movies out there, the whole series of them. I don't like the third one but they are all good and I go like parts of the third one. They are great for a family movie night because there are some good adult-ish jokes. And I always remember my dad enjoying the shrek movies growing up.

funny submitted by jw on August 11, 2018, 5:04pm so funny and good

A Genuinely Good Movie submitted by elizabeth mayhew on August 23, 2018, 1:09am Shrek is a good movie with a soundtrack you can sing along to, as well as memorable characters.

hilarious submitted by kevinhe on July 20, 2019, 6:03pm just can't stop laughing when shrek was talking.

Original story submitted by gracekil on August 14, 2019, 1:11pm I loved the original story, and how not-Disney the ending was. It's not about the beautiful princess and prince charming. Beauty can found in everyone, no matter what you look like.

Irreverent Humor with a Hidden Heart submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2019, 10:55pm This delightful animated film holds up remarkably well, and it’s a rare film that can appeal across many different audiences. For all of its stinging satire and loving send-ups of typical fairy tale stories (particularly as told by a certain famous animation company), the film maintains its own surprisingly sweet emotional core, poking fun at itself while presenting a charming story of friendship, self-acceptance, and (inevitably) true love’s kiss. Much of the humor is, alas, scatological, but these jokes are balanced well by more nuanced barbs, carried by a wonderful cast who all deliver exemplary performances. Eddie Murphy steals the show as the wisecracking Donkey, while Cameron Diaz’s Fiona is headstrong and vulnerable and Mike Myers hits on a great mix of cynicism and genuine pathos as Shrek. The animation looks a bit choppy and bland by today’s standards but holds up fairly well in service to its story (which is supposed to be read as deliberately artificial, anyway). I hadn’t revisited this film for a long time, and I’m really happy that I did, because it is absolutely excellent and heralds a more self-aware era in animated filmmaking; it definitely deserves its place in the canon.

Shrek is amazing submitted by pamelawright on August 17, 2020, 10:43am Loved the movie. I have watched it a bazillion times. Loved it every time! Highly recommend it!

amazing submitted by somewhere.gone on June 29, 2022, 8:54pm absolute masterpiece

It was good! submitted by Abbie D. on July 20, 2022, 12:04pm I really liked this one! Does it deserve the hype it gets? Not for me. But I know that other people, some friends included, REALLY like this one. So, its worth the watch to form your own opinion!

Shrek Is a God submitted by disasterzone on June 21, 2023, 3:31pm Okay lets talk common sence, Shrek. To be honest, Shrek is a great movie for an audience of anyone. If Shrek was real he would be my hero and husband.

-A shrek fan

Very American Slapstick Movie submitted by Marcie Austerberry on July 19, 2023, 12:30pm Toilet humor, voices by classic actors, so many puns and just stupid jokes, new take on fairy tales and storybook characters. The characters, even the bad guys, are lovable. My 20-something kids still love it!
