COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Weird submitted by ashflowtuff on August 18, 2011, 8:53am Very strange, but in a good way. One of the only movies with Nicholas Cage that I can actually stand to watch. I also highly recommend reading The Orchid Thief, the book that the movie is (sort of) based on.

Layered submitted by prlhw on June 18, 2012, 5:01pm This film is layered with layers upon layers. You really have to watch it a few times to get the hang of how every thing is fitting together. But man is it good. I agree with the other person "One of the only movies with Nicholas Cage that I can actually stand to watch." Watch for a wild ride...

Wild film submitted by monipate on July 30, 2012, 9:55pm Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper balance out Nic Cage's (purposeful) crazy and end up lifting all boats in this unique and interesting film.

Horrible and Funny submitted by kathscot on August 26, 2014, 9:29am Swings between funny and violent with interesting observations of life in between. A movie that doesn't easily fit into a catagory.

Surreal submitted by easmith on June 17, 2016, 10:27am Surreal and complex, self-reflexive, funny and strange. If you like Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman you will love this film. Two characters are portrayed Nicholas Cage, a double motivation to watch.

Enthrallingly Confusing submitted by sushai on July 25, 2020, 10:29pm It's the kind of movie where you tell yourself if you just watch it again, it'll make more sense, and you do, and it does, but you'll never quite figure it out. I love that kind of thing. Great acting.

not a big deal submitted by Tassos on April 24, 2021, 10:25pm Rather lame, in fact

Huh submitted by jibkidder on June 20, 2022, 9:51am When I first saw this I wasn't totally taken with it, but now that I have a much more defined sense of who Charlie Kaufman is as an artist it would be interesting to rewatch and see how it holds up. I think either way, it's safe to say this is not as good of a film as the mindblowing Synechdoche or my personal favorite, "I'm thinking of ending things".
