An Embarassment of Riches submitted by Meginator on July 1, 2019, 10:30pm With such a rich musical heritage to draw from, selecting 50 songs to represent the history of Walt Disney Records must have been a daunting task. Ted Kryczko is mostly up to the job here, and the album includes most of the essential tracks I would have put on my own short list, as well as a few surprises. Given the enormity of the task and the incredible depth and breadth of Disney’s catalogue, I would have preferred a wider range of sources; it’s difficult to argue with any single selection here, but the collection would be stronger if Kryczko had imposed a limit of one song per source. The majority of the songs do, unsurprisingly, hail from the studio’s canonical animated films, with a few additions from the theme parks sprinkled in for good measure and a group of pop songs at the end. The end of the compilation may be a bit disappointing, but overall it's a nice way to experience a range of mostly iconic Disney recordings.
