Based upon Norman Maclean's classic autobiography.
Videodisc release of the 1992 motion picture.
Craig Sheffer, Brad Pitt, Tom Skerritt, Brenda Blethyn, Emily Lloyd.
Academy Award-winning director Robert Redford captures the majesty of the Montana Wilderness and the strength of the American family in this acclaimed adaptation of Norman Maclean's classic autobiography. Craig Sheffer stars as the young Norman, and Brad Pitt also stars as his brother Paul, an irresistible daredevil driven to challenge the world. Growing up, both boys rebel against their stern minister father. While Norman channels his rebellion into writing, Paul descends a slippery path to self-destruction. Co-starring Tom Skerritt as the Reverend Maclean and Emily Lloyd as wild-hearted Jessie Burns, A river runs through it is "destined to become a classic. It's a knockout."

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

a very poignant film submitted by sumsaylor on July 27, 2015, 2:13pm A River Runs Through It is about two brothers who each take a different path in life. This is an all around great film. Robert Redford does a superb job as the narrator.

Fly fishing! submitted by leenajong on August 16, 2015, 7:22pm I love fly fishing, so naturally, I watch it for the fishing!

A hard story to bring to light submitted by ccrose on July 21, 2019, 11:21am I read the book of stories first, published when the writer/the remaining brother was in his 70’s. He said he waited until family members were gone to publish. And in the last moments of the movie, a voiceover spoken by aged Maclean says he has always been haunted by rivers. The flowing guilt he carried for years. So sad. So real.
