Rob is getting ready to leave New York in order to take an executive job at a company in Japan. At his goodbye party in a crowded loft, Rob's brother Jason hands a camcorder to best friend Hud, who proceeds to tape the party over old footage of Rob's ex-girlfriend, Beth. Beth shows up at the party with a new beau, which upsets Rob. Then the unexpected happens: New York is suddenly under attack from a Godzilla-like monster who stomps through midtown, destroying everything and everybody in sight. Rob and his friends take to the streets, but instead of running away with the other evacuees, they head toward the center of destruction so that Rob can rescue an injured Beth.
DVD, region 1, widescreen presentation; Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.

Shaky. submitted by markwells on July 17, 2011, 4:01pm Why do I feel guilty about liking this movie? Maybe because of the hand-held camera style and the way it makes you feel like you're right there, watching as something terrible happens to someone else. You don't want to look away. You want to keep watching and get a better look and try to figure out just what the heck that thing is terrorizing the city. This is where the movie succeeds. One problem: Hold the camera still. The home video effect is way overdone. Even the most amateurish of videographers would be more steady-handed. Having said that, I still liked this movie.

Great submitted by Chris82 on July 31, 2011, 8:32pm I admit it, I love this movie. Its the first high budget monster movie made in years and this was done very well. There is lots of action, suspense and touching moments. I still hope they make a sequel to it.

Great! submitted by Memoria1224 on June 18, 2013, 12:40pm This was a really good movie. There was a lot of suspense and I felt like I was actually there. The movie was really creepy.

Not for me submitted by six_rabbits on June 17, 2020, 7:53pm The shaky, confined camera shots are unrelenting and exhausting to watch. After about 30 minutes I switched my player to 2x speed, but even at that rate it couldn't hold my interest. It's as if the entire movie is trying to build tension toward a non-existent climax. Somehow, it manages to make the destruction of NYC by a towering monster boring.

Scary but awesome submitted by dave_472 on July 21, 2020, 10:39pm Love this movie, scary, but great effects!

Great movie submitted by ilenekroll on July 25, 2021, 7:06pm I really like this movie. You really grow to love the characters and it’s unpredictable (in my opinion) and suspenseful.

Shake shake shake… Shake your movie submitted by tarascon on June 27, 2023, 7:44pm MTV meets KC and The Sunshine Band. ;p
An interesting concept film at the time. Derivative but better than one may expect—let’s turn it over to PlayStation.

>> Overheard comment on leaving the theater:
“What a crappy movie, the director couldn’t even hold the camera still.”

LOL… talk about missing the point.
