Cute! submitted by Xris on June 17, 2018, 9:59am I went and saw the author speak at A2CAF and wanted to read the graphic novel he was talking about. I like that DJ finds out that he IS good at something, through Hilo. Now I need to read more to find out what happens!

Fun & creative read submitted by jennyj on July 14, 2019, 1:31pm Imaginative series that both my 5 year old and 3 year old really enjoy. Robots, portals, jokes, and looking out for your friends are some of the reoccurring themes throughout the series. Thank you to the AADL, A2CAF and Vault of Midnight for providing the opportunity to meet author Judd Winick at the book signing meet & greet event.

very funny energetic book submitted by liztibbetts on August 30, 2019, 10:54am It has a lot of funny things in it. I like the crazy robotic things

OUTSTANDING! submitted by Lori Tschirhart on July 8, 2020, 8:55pm Would you want a kid falling from the sky? I would.

Hilo submitted by jibkidder on July 30, 2022, 8:54am Is Hilo, the mango loving alien robot, based on or a metaphor for a child somewhere on the spectrum? We will never know, but highly intelligent, interpersonally unusual grade school children will find much to love here. The plot is all over the place but the characterizations are what stand out. This is Judd from the Real World! Children of the 90s will recall the standout season with that punk, Puck, and his mistreatment of Pedro, RIP. I have a feeling the illustration is indebted somewhat to Garfield's Jim Davis, because the way Jon is drawn whenever something gnarly happens to him, e.g. a finger in the socket or something, he is depicted similarly.

One of our favorite books submitted by legalmama on July 30, 2022, 1:08pm The illustrations are good. The book is really exciting. My favorite part is at the end where they see the portal. This book is also funny.

One of our family favorites! submitted by JTreadwell on June 9, 2023, 1:39pm Hilo was a random grab from the shelves, but we quickly fell in love with the main Character and his love of mangoes, dogs, and friends. It's like a new Calvin and Hobbes and we can't wait to read the whole series!

One of the best comics ever!! submitted by eoluxon on June 9, 2023, 5:06pm I really liked it because it was funny and the drawings are good. I really think you should read this if you like comics. And if you like it, read the entire series because it's really good.

Amazing Super Hero Alternative submitted by robinmariepeterson on June 22, 2023, 9:19am If you want your kids to experience the fun of super heroes without the problematic and flat good guy/bad guy dichotomy, these are the books for you! Complex, diverse characters and so much fun! My 5yo and 3yo both love them!
