"Originally published in the UK by Jonathan Cape, September 2016"--Colophon.
"From the author who brought you The Encyclopedia of Early Earth comes another epic tale of derring-do. Prepare to be dazzled once more by the overwhelming power of stories and see love prevail in the face of terrible adversity! You will read of betrayal, loyalty, madness, bad husbands, lovers both faithful and unfaithful, wise old crones, moons who come out of the sky, musical instruments that won't stay quiet, friends and brothers and fathers and mothers and, above all, many many sisters"--Back cover.

Strong Female Characters! submitted by sushai on August 20, 2017, 10:41am Second book I've read from this author, and both are in my top graphic novels of all time. Really recommend her to young women and teens.
Central story was appealing submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 17, 2020, 8:56pm A book club pick, I agreed with most of those who came this month that while we didn’t love the artistic style, most of the central story was appealing. The feisty nature of the central women, the circular nature of the story, and the cleverness of the plot (both the stories themselves and, for example, how the guards were drawn in and carried them on) kept me reading. The intro story of Birdman and his daughter creating the world seemed inane and unnecessary, and had I been looking at it off a shelf and simply reading the first 10 pages, I would not have picked it up for a full read. Nonetheless, the full book appealed to me in its wholeness. 4.5/5
