Extremely powerful. submitted by purplewaves on August 1, 2018, 5:55pm Jones has an exquisite way of puling you into her writing. With just the right amount of words, you're there. In such a heartbreaking story, it's almost a cruelty, but I was very glad for the experience.

Beautiful and Compelling submitted by selujules on August 5, 2018, 8:09am I loved it! A fast read, with beautiful prose and dynamic, fascinating characters. The best book I've read all summer.

***** submitted by shannonwait on August 7, 2018, 5:23am With lots of twists and turns and beautiful, thoughtful writing, everything about this book just works. I was instantly sucked in and loved every page.

Loved the writing, disliked the characters submitted by dntanzer on August 10, 2018, 9:34am The writing of this book was some of my favorite! It was beautiful and flowed well. I started out loving the characters, and was very interested in the story, but as time went on, I grow to dislike almost all of them. I found them to be needlessly cruel to each other. But despite this, I still loved reading this book and would recommend it to fans of contemporary adult fiction.

Really good submitted by 21621031390949 on August 27, 2018, 9:21am Really good story about relationships and some of the issues faced by Black men in America. The audio version is excellent!!

Unsympathetic characters submitted by jaromatorio on July 22, 2019, 12:19pm This book was beautifully written, but I was so frustrated by the main characters that I couldn’t even really enjoy it. A portion of the conflict in the book was caused by genuine systemic injustices, but I felt like the majority of the issues the characters faced could’ve been addressed by the protagonists just...having a mature conversation with one another.

Couldn’t put down submitted by Nataliemadams on August 1, 2020, 9:18pm Beautiful written page turner. Heart breaking but loving.

Very powerful, a must read! submitted by leah karr on August 19, 2022, 6:17pm I read this in 2020, when everything felt like a lot. But this book was so very good! Thought provoking and gut-wrenching.
