"From stand-up comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish comes The Last Black Unicorn, a hilarious, edgy, and heart-wrenching collection of autobiographical essays that will leave you laughing through tears. Tiffany Haddish grew up in one of the poorest parts of South Central Los Angeles. Her mother wound up with a debilitating brain injury after surviving a car accident. Tiffany never fit in anywhere: not in the households she rotated through in the foster care system, and certainly not the nearly all white high school she had to ride the bus an hour to attend. As an illiterate ninth grader, Tiffany did everything she could to survive. After a multitude of jobs, she finally realized that she had talent in an area she never would have suspected: comedy. Tiffany faced the 'routine' hindrances of climbing the entertainment business ladder--but had the added obstacles of sex, race, and class in her way. But she got there. She's humble, grateful, down to earth, and funny as hell. She still cleans the toilet the way she was shown by a foster mom who worked as a maid, and she still rolls her joints the way one of her foster dads taught her. Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays--it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter"-- Provided by publisher.

The Last Black Unicorn submitted by treechild on June 21, 2019, 4:48pm Impressed to learn about the journey of this recent star, the struggles she faced growing up, and how she maintained her vibrant identity through it all

Not what I expected submitted by Xris on May 26, 2020, 1:11am I expected the book to be more funny than it was. Sad to know about all the bad things that have happened in her life, but happy that she's doing well for herself now. I hope she writes another and it has more comedy in it.

Interesting but disappointed submitted by alisonhatch94 on July 21, 2020, 9:02pm I was sort of disappointed by this book. I saw so many reviews saying it was hilarious but I didn't think it was that funny. I understand she's a comedian but the way she described and talked about several characters I thought was just offensive, especially Rosco. Her life sounds so interesting and I loved hearing her experiences but the way it was written just let it down in my opinion.

Quick but not very exciting submitted by dntanzer on August 18, 2020, 8:30pm This was a short read for me, but I never really felt fully engaged in the writing. It was just okay for me. Worth reading if you're a fan of Tiffany Hadish, but otherwise I don't recommend it

so bad submitted by mtebo on June 23, 2022, 9:54am Not only was this not funny in the slightest, it's definitely one of the worst books I've ever read. I can't' believe it actually got published.

Tough at times, but worth submitted by tcramer318 on July 9, 2022, 7:26pm Tiffany Haddish is one of the funniest people alive. I'll admit that some of the stuff she talks about in this book is really rough to read, and that can be really upsetting. I'd recommend her standup or the interviews she gave around the time the book dropped for anyone who's curious about the book, but maybe doesn't want to feel upset by some of the more horrible events. Personally, I'm giving 5/5 stars because her voice really comes through and I was riveted for the while ride.
