Stand up straight with your shoulders back -- Treat yourself like someone you are responsible for helping -- Make friends with people who want the best for you -- Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today -- Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them -- Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world -- Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient) -- Tell the truth--or, at least, don't lie -- Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don't -- Be precise in your speech -- Do not bother children when they are skateboarding -- Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street.
"What does everyone in the modern world need to know? Renowned psychologist Jordan B. Peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research. Humorous, surprising and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street. What does the nervous system of the lowly lobster have to tell us about standing up straight (with our shoulders back) and about success in life? Why did ancient Egyptians worship the capacity to pay careful attention as the highest of gods? What dreadful paths do people tread when they become resentful, arrogant and vengeful? Dr. Peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world's wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 Rules for Life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers."-- Provided by publisher.

...trash submitted by Kurogane Ichigo on May 24, 2019, 7:35am My man literally has no idea what he’s talking about. Half the things he says are common sense (clean your room) and the other half is flat out incorrect. Look for the part where he talks trash about a former patient

Does More Harm Than Good submitted by carlsonj on August 8, 2019, 12:11pm Things like taking care of yourself and living in an orderly home, and appreciating the little things, all fine and good. However Jordan Peterson is well known for rhetoric opposing women's rights, and rights of LGBTQ+ people.

He talks in his book about a patient who told him she thinks she was assaulted, several times, and he turn it around on to what she did instead of what happened to her. [Who are you? What did you do? What happened? What was the objective truth? There was no way of knowing the objective truth. And there never would be. There was no objective observer, and there never would be. There was no complete and accurate story. Such a thing did not and could not exist. There were, and are, only partial accounts and fragmentary viewpoints.]. Indicating not to trust her own experience as she is not objective - when she has been assaulted.

Peterson has said that trans people are "playing" a role, and he refuses to refer to non-binary (people whose gender is neither man nor woman, or both) with their proper pronouns. He actively and very vocally opposed Canada's passing of protections for trans/non-binary people - accusing it as limiting free speech. He ignores he is silencing the LGBTQ+ people he refuses to acknowledge. People who are actively harmed when treated like they shouldn't/don't exist. People who are often threatened, physically harmed, left homeless and jobless, or killed.

Please skip this book. Or, if you absolutely need to read it - understand as you do, that Peterson has a lot of bad ideas and falsehoods disguised as expert knowledge and fact.

Agree or disagree with him ... you'll find this insightful submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on June 19, 2020, 5:29pm Peterson is an exceptional thinker whose strong opinions are often mistaken as haughty and assumed as presented as indisputable fact. You'll find some unique perspectives here. Very thoughtful, although intermittently tersely concludes with an uncorroborated statement. It has a conservative “this is how it is” conviction. A wide-ranging anthology of introspective insights on life, blended with loads of Bible interpretation.

Life Saver submitted by mssthoma on June 21, 2022, 12:13am I came across Jordan Peterson due to his interview with Kathy Newman. His insights and thought provoking lectures literally saved my life and brought me back from suicidal ideation. This book is a succinct version of his hundreds of hours of lectures available on YouTube. But, skip the audiobook. Professor Peterson does a better job when speaking off the cuff rather than with a script.
