give 'em the Bird! submitted by kencza on June 15, 2018, 4:25pm coming of age chick flick, not bad but I won't watch it again

Best ever submitted by S S on June 15, 2018, 9:26pm Lady Bird is probably the best coming-of-age film made in recent times. Greta Gerwig's excellent script, emotionally real direction, and Saoirse Ronan's spot-on, complex teenager make this film a delight to watch. Any girl who grew up in America can find something to relate to in this intelligent, heartfelt drama.

Wonderful submitted by adimarzo on July 3, 2018, 12:54pm This is a wonderful, nuanced coming-of-age film. Terrific script and great cast.

Great movie submitted by heapah on July 14, 2018, 8:04pm One of my favorite recent movies. A wonderful and intelligent coming-of-age movie

I liked it a lot! submitted by KOH on July 23, 2018, 7:43pm Like everyone else says, this is a great coming of age movie. Really captures that era of life as a young woman. The relationship between mother and daughter was complex and realistic, and any heartbreaking scene is balanced with feel-good moments as well. I recommend this one!

Overhyped and unfunny: worst movie of 2017 submitted by MH17 on August 6, 2018, 9:20pm My least favorite movie of 2017, and I watch a lot of movies. I wanted to like this mainly because Ronan is a remarkable actress (seek her out in Brooklyn) and Laurie Metcalf is usually reliable and because so many people whose opinion I admire really liked this movie. And, also, it was a Best Picture nominee. Lady Bird, the main character, is so completely unlikeable from beginning to end, it was impossible to feel sympathy for her. From her bickering relationship with her mother, to her mother's constant harping and nagging to her to her shallow relationships, Lady Bird is the worst--unpleasant, untrustworthy, mawkish, cruel, a talentless twit. Her best friend, who she abandons hallway through, is the best part of the movie. I wish the movie were about her. The biggest problem with this movie, though, is that it is not funny. Not ever. Not in the least. This movie was so incredibly overrated. Do not believe the hype. Skip it. Rent Brooklyn.

Not funny, sad & a bit bizarre submitted by LVDS on August 19, 2018, 9:40pm Dysfunctional mom, sweet dad, high school drama.....if that's what you're looking for?!

Lady Bird (2017) review. submitted by calinescus on August 23, 2018, 1:57pm Based on writer-director Greta Gerwig's own adolescence in Sacramento, Lady Bird avoids all the cliches and instead captures the spirit of those impactful years between high school and college, between teenagehood and adulthood. Because of the autobiographical influence, the film feels like an incredibly personal piece of art. The story pivots around 17-year-old Christine -- "Lady Bird" -- and her simultaneously loving and frustrated relationships with the people around her, especially with her mother. All the characters feel incredibly real, intelligent, and fallible -- young adults and adults alike. Excellent performances by Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf and the incredibly sharp and humorous writing kept me engaged the entire time.

Skipable submitted by lstorc on August 27, 2018, 6:39pm This was anti-climatic, sad, and not really even that funny in the indie sense of comedy. The characters were pathetic.

interesting coming of age movie. submitted by rbseemail on August 31, 2018, 9:32am Interesting, but sad movie. Life is difficult.

¯\_(⊙︿⊙)_/¯ submitted by majean on July 27, 2019, 2:04pm How is this listed as a comedy??? Not funny. I probably would have liked it more if it were billed as a coming of age drama and not a comedy.

Nope submitted by emilysuzanne on August 2, 2019, 8:00pm This movie was incredibly boring and very predictable.

Comfort Movie submitted by carcat15 on June 15, 2022, 11:13am As a teen girl, I could see a lot of myself and my mom in Lady Bird and her mom. This is a great coming-of-age movie because it is so relatable to a vast audience at the same age. There is not much of a plot, but I can appreciate a movie that is more about the character development than the plot.

wonderful coming of age film submitted by zaraz on June 24, 2022, 1:21am lady bird has been one of my favorite films since I first saw it back in 2017, I think it’s one of the most authentic coming of age stories I’ve ever seen on screen. the script is absolutely brilliant, I’ve read it multiple times and I have to say that gerwig’s writing actually inspired me to apply to film school and to pursue a career in screenwriting; every time I have a moment of professional success, I think about how this movie inspired me. it’s such a touching, honest film with lovely performances all around and a great soundtrack, I highly recommend :)
