"Midnights first published 2014 in My True Love Gave to Me...Kindred Spirits first published 2016 for World Book Day"--Title page verso.
Kindred spirits.
Almost Midnight by Rainbow Rowell is a beautiful gift edition containing two wintery short stories, decorated throughout for the first time with gorgeous black and white illustrations by Simini Blocker. Midnights is the story of Noel and Mags, who meet at the same New Year's Eve party every year and fall a little more in love each time . . . Kindred Spirits is about Elena, who decides to queue to see the new Star Wars movie and meets Gabe, a fellow fan. Midnights was previously published as part of the My True Love Gave to Me anthology, edited by Stephanie Perkins and Kindred Spirits was previously published as a World Book Day title.

Author Notes

Charming Duet submitted by Meginator on June 17, 2018, 8:13am This book pairs two quirky love stories that fit right at the heart of Rainbow Rowell's wheelhouse. "Midnights" deploys a familiar, yet satisfactory, premise, following two characters as they meet at a series of New Year's Eve parties; the leads feel like well-rounded characters, and I'd happily follow them through a longer story. "Kindred Spirits" is a bit more obvious in its intentions, but it's a cute story that will resonate with nerdy readers who don't often see themselves reflected in stories like this. Rowell deploys her very finest sarcasm in this one, too. Neither story feels like it has particularly high stakes, nor do they divert from their expected courses, but they are so fun to read and offer a pleasant diversion from the real world.
