Quite Amazing submitted by Beth Manuel on July 16, 2018, 5:06pm Frankly, I was surprised at the level of intrigue in this film. Although it definitely is slow in parts, and the work in a fashion house can be tedious to watch, I was still entertained by the plot and what on earth was going to happen. The title "Phantom Thread" bears multiple meanings. The photography was beautiful, as were the fashions.
Interesting & bizarre submitted by LVDS on July 29, 2018, 3:37pm Story of a high end dress designer in London fashion house. He's eccentric, makes beautiful gowns...and falls in love with one of his models.....who I won't give it away, but she does some unusual things to get him to depend on her. Strange ending, twisted "love".
The Dress Artist submitted by zornm on August 19, 2018, 1:34pm While the film is beautiful in many ways, the pace is glacial and the characters are not engaging. It is a difficult to like the odd storyline and to feel much but bewilderment at the ending.
What was the point of this movie???
submitted by Tassos on February 17, 2019, 12:00pm
An obnoxious dressmaker mistreats a nice model for his dresses. Everything is black and white. The Male actor is always to blame, while the Poor little Female lead is pure as the driven snow and is also right about everything. Which raises my suspicion that this is one more chick movie, either blatant or in disguise. I had to see much of it on MUTE and subtitles, and even fast forwarded the less important 'padding' scenes in this LONG movie.
I suffered this movie to its end, and derived no important conclusion from it. Largely a waste of time, although, to its credit, it depicts the atmosphere of Society London in the 50s pretty well.
Overrated submitted by ferielp on August 4, 2023, 3:25pm Possibly an unpopular opinion, but while the twist was enjoyable, the rest of the movie (Acting, dialogue, sets, costumes) was not Oscar-nomination worthy.
