Need a good laugh? submitted by mbt on June 28, 2018, 11:09am Usually I prefer to listen to David Sedaris read his books, but I just couldn't wait for the BOCD and grabbed the Express Shelf copy knowing I could easily read this book in two weeks. What I had forgotten was that when reading a David Sedaris book you can practically hear him delivering those lines that make you laugh out loud. Comprised of short stories, Sedaris covers everything from his obsession with his fit bit to the spiritual world. Be ready to laugh hard and cry softly, because along with his usual humor there are tender moments of self reflection that will make you see there is more to David Sedaris than just a good laugh.
A good summer read submitted by kirterry on July 1, 2018, 11:49am David Sedaris once again lets the reader into his everyday life, from entertaining exploits on his US book tours to his rambles around his home in rural England collecting FitBit steps and litter. He also offers a window into his family dynamics, not only when they are humorous, but also when they are challenging.
Great submitted by manz on July 12, 2018, 11:56am One of my fave Sedaris books in a while. I just can't get enough of his stories. I highly recommend meeting him at a signing if you have a chance!! The experience is unlike meeting any other author - i.e. not boring.
Loved this book! submitted by fairytale on July 17, 2018, 5:03pm My favorite David Sedaris book so far! Highly recommend!
Sedaris at his best submitted by A2AE on July 23, 2018, 1:14pm Although few essays will be new reads for Sedaris fans (many can be found along the way via his FB page and in the New Yorker), it's a wonderfully satisfying read. As always, I can't help but giggling aloud when reading his essays, and the same is true with this collection. I really appreciate how much he revises his work while he's on tour and makes each essay a tightly constructed, really well written piece. What a delight!
Hilarious and brilliant submitted by NhuDo on July 5, 2022, 5:37pm This is one of my favorite Sedaris books with comical and heartwarming recollections of him, his family, and the people in his life. I especially loved the short essay about his obsession with his Fitbit. Made me laugh out loud the entire trip with my family.
Wonderful collection of essays submitted by sumsaylor on July 17, 2022, 12:22pm There is only one David Sedaris: funny, insightful, a joy to encounter on the page. Few writers walk the line between pathos/humor like Sedaris and this collection features a number of essays that are both moving and funny. He writes with great clarity and sympathy about family issues, notably about his sister, Tiffany, who died by suicide, and his aging father, with whom he has a somewhat fraught relationship. If you're not familiar with Sedaris, this is a good place to start.
So Funny! submitted by ADMartin on August 2, 2022, 12:47pm I love David Sedaris’s books and this one was no exception. I was laughing throughout reading this. I could imagine just sitting beside him while he’s telling these stories.
