Read by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
My name is Peter Grant, and I'm a keeper of the secret flame. Truth be told, there's a lot I still don't know. My superior Nightingale is trying to teach me proper schooling for a magician's apprentice. But even he doesn't have all the answers. A mutilated body in Crawley means another murderer is on the loose. But then I get word of something very odd happening in Elephant and Castle. Just the typical day for a magician constable.

Broken Homes submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 15, 2019, 9:11am "Broken Homes" is the fourth book in the Rivers of London series (read the first three books before reading this one or you won't understand what's happening). This book continues following London police officer Peter Grant, who is in training to become a magician and currently investigates magic-related crimes or crimes that involve magical species, such as elves.
The book's name is also a commentary on how badly maintained public housing can be but also celebrates those who work to keep the residents organized and agitate for better living conditions.
The term "Rivers of London" refers to the fact that, in these books, every river in Britain (and possibly the entire world) has a God or Goddess who lives in the body of a human. This human become the God(dess) and the literal personification of the river itself. These deities have supernatural abilities but also must live in the modern world, posing as normal humans.
