"Foraging with Kids is an engaging, practical book for adults and children to work through together to build knowledge and understanding of the natural world through exploration and play. The projects are based around 52 easy-to-identify plants found worldwide, each one illustrated with a beautiful hand drawing for easy identification that is perfect for colouring in at home. Children and adults will be amazed by the diverse uses for their finds; from making soap from conkers to stopping minor cuts from bleeding with hedge woundwort. This is the ideal companion for anyone wanting to unlock nature's larder and teach their children about the glorious abundance of the world around them."--Back cover.

Scared to trust it submitted by sara on August 3, 2019, 11:12am I like the idea of foraging, but, the lack of color photos and the British vocabulary make me nervous to try it. the black and white drawings are good, and the author even suggests that they can be coloured in. There are also the different names the plants are know by in different parts of the world. Still...

Interesting but wish it had more photos
This isn't the greatest book, especially for kids.
missed the mark on foraging submitted by yufamily on July 31, 2021, 10:11am It could have been more comprehensive
Some Good Recipes, But... submitted by sdunav on July 21, 2023, 1:45pm This is not the best book on foraging (with or without kids) for beginners. If you know the species covered here, there *are* some good recipes and tips on collecting and processing. Note that this was published in Great Britain, and uses British common names. Since a lot of commonly foraged species are cosmopolitan weeds, this isn't too much of a problem for us in the Midwest US (though we have a sad lack of hedgerows here). Scientific names are also given, so you can figure out that fat hen=goosefoot or lamb's quarters (Chenopodium album) and jack by the hedge is garlic mustard. But this is best used as a supplement to more comprehensive books, videos, and/or classes.
