A Surprising Evolution submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 11:12pm This album is a bit of a surprise from Weezer, much more laid back than their usual style and less enamored with its own cleverness. The result is a group of tracks that carry the band’s signature wit but with an indie surf-rock vibe that feels relaxed and effortless, with seamless consistency throughout. The music is a bit of a departure, but it is one that feels like a natural evolution, or at least a deliberate exploration of an alternate type of outlet for their talent. As a casual Weezer fan generally familiar with most of their music since the late 1990s, I really enjoyed this.
