The book I wanted to read submitted by mrajraspn08 on June 16, 2019, 7:05pm I have autism, and it's frustrating to constantly see it portrayed as a simple quirkiness. I was so excited to see a book featuring a nonverbal, "lower-functioning" person with autism, and the book did not disappoint. The character was wonderful, and portrayed beautifully, and the relationships were compelling. The only thing keeping it from five stars was that I was a little disappointed in a swerve at the end. I HIGHLY recommend, and I wish there were more books like this.
Recommended to me by an autistic adult submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 12, 2021, 9:40pm This fantastic YA book tells the story of a young non-verbal autistic girl in foster care… from her own perspective. It is utterly brilliant, and I read it because I read a review by an autistic adult who said that this was the first book they read about being autistic that actually captured what it is like from the inside. It’s one of those brilliant books that stretches the reader’s worldview to a life unlike their own (I can almost guarantee none of us have lived this particular set of circumstances), and it does so in a compelling story that I never wanted to put down. Wholeheartedly recommended, 5/5 stars.
