Wickedly Difficult, Wickedly Fun Puzzles submitted by Meginator on June 30, 2019, 11:38am This book took me completely by surprise, and I loved it. Each two-page spread depicts a relatively humdrum scene, highlighting several everyday objects that serve as clues to a mystery animal’s identity. Easy, right? Not so! My own hit rate was below 50%, even considering the times I guessed a vague type of animal rather than a specific species, and yet I was always delighted to discover how the clues corresponded to various features. How, indeed, do you craft a certain bird from a couple of billiard balls and a few feather dusters, and what does it mean to compare a chainsaw to a certain rodent’s teeth? The guessing element might prove frustrating for the youngest readers (and their seasoned companions as well), but this unique perspective on the natural world serves as a wonderfully imaginative jumping-off point for readers of all ages to think about animals and evolutionary traits.
