Laura Dean, the most popular girl in high school, was Frederica Riley's dream girl: charming, confident, and SO cute. There's just one problem: Laura Dean is maybe not the greatest girlfriend. Reeling from her latest break up, Freddy's best friend, Doodle, introduces her to the Seek-Her, a mysterious medium, who leaves Freddy some cryptic parting words: break up with her. But Laura Dean keeps coming back, and as their relationship spirals further out of her control, Freddy has to wonder if it's really Laura Dean that's the problem. Maybe it's Freddy, who is rapidly losing her friends, including Doodle, who needs her now more than ever. Fortunately for Freddy, there are new friends, and the insight of advice columnists like Anna Vice to help her through being a teenager in love. Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O'Connell bring to life a sweet and spirited tale of young love that asks us to consider what happens when we ditch the toxic relationships we crave to embrace the healthy ones we need.

Beautiful with a good message submitted by dntanzer on June 28, 2019, 10:44am The art is absolutely gorgeous! The story is a little slower, but has relatable and likeable characters along with encouragement for people to identify and get out of toxic relationships.

good book submitted by 2025MJW on August 28, 2021, 9:46am this is a good book, i really like the art style! the main character, freddy, seems kinda oblivious to me, but the plot itself is great (even if it is a bit slow). the twists are unexpected and add complexity to the story. i recommend this to you if you're looking for a book to read in downtime (just make sure you have a lot of time when you start, the characters drag you into their world and you won't be able to put the book down until you finish it!)

Beautiful Representation submitted by lalakcarlin on July 25, 2022, 2:22pm The representation in this book is great, without being all up in your face. It has a variety of great characters, and is mostly free of stereotypes, while giving you an amazing story.

two color submitted by meerakmr on August 19, 2022, 2:39pm The two-color depictions of Laura Dean are amazing in the artistic choices, with the colors changing dramatically and subtly based on how Freddy sees her. The small details highlighted through color are fascinating and really interesting when analyzing the book.

Quick read submitted by majean on June 12, 2023, 6:04pm This book has some relatable characters and terrific artistic choices. I agree with others who say the story is on the slower side, but because it isn't a long read, this didn't bother me.
