More Potential Than Product; Good Highlights submitted by Meginator on July 7, 2019, 5:24pm After seeing Maren Morris in concert and hearing a few songs off of this album, I expected great things, and “Girl” mostly delivered. I really enjoy her style, which I’d classify as country-tinged, laid-back pop, and the best tracks are catchy and fun; I did, however, feel like she sometimes missed opportunities to take her songs to the next level and make them really stand out. The relaxed vibe suits the lyrical content quite well, with surprisingly deep examinations of topics such as self-confidence, friendship, and love. I don’t think this album fully lives up to Maren Morris’s potential, but it’s still pretty good and a nice change of pace that doesn’t stray to far from current pop trends.
