"A novel of family, Midwestern values, hard work, fate, and the secrets of making a world-class beer, from the author of Kitchens of the Great Midwest"-- Provided by publisher.
A family is split when their father leaves the inheritance entirely to Helen, his younger daughter. Despite baking award-winning pies at the local nursing home, her older sister, Edith, struggles to make what most people would call a living. With the proceeds from the farm Helen builds one of the most successful light breweries in the country. Edith's granddaughter, Diana, grows up knowing that the real world requires a tougher constitution than her grandmother possesses. She earns a shot at learning the IPA business from the ground up. Will that change their fortunes forever, and perhaps reunite her splintered family? -- adapted from jacket

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Not nearly as good as Kitchens of the Great Midwest submitted by hiker15 on August 23, 2020, 11:58am After reading the author's "Kitchens of the Great Midwest" I was anticipated a 5-star book. This book was a disappointment. It was a slog to get through. Also, it's no fun to read a sad book where one child gets the full inheritance and the other child gets nothing and scrapes by.

Emotional family tale with a fun setting in the beer industry submitted by kkrasity on August 29, 2021, 2:13pm This book had me tearing up from both sadness and joy. I loved reading about the ups and downs of the two sisters' lives, and found the evolving beer-brewing industry to be a very interesting backdrop to the story.

Lovely submitted by larkspur on March 6, 2024, 1:55pm This book was easy, quick, and engaging to read. As other reviewers have stated, it's got rough parts, but also lots of sweetness. A lot of what happens *is* fun, and in a realistic way. I won't be seeking out the author's other things, but am happy to have found this one (through https://aadl.org/node/624442 Tournament of Tomes II)
