Sadly, a disappointment submitted by 21621031390949 on June 11, 2021, 2:26pm What a disappointment. After loving “Home” and “Gilead” I’ve been SO looking forward to reading “Jack.” He was such an intriguing character in both previous books; I couldn’t wait to read his story. Alas, I’ve struggled through to the middle of this book, but have had to give it up. Tedious and slow are two words to describe it. The early (interminable) scene in the graveyard must be at least one quarter of the book, and it is so repetitive and boring, I barely made it through.

Certainly different. submitted by terpsichore17 on August 26, 2022, 4:34pm After seeing life, the town of Gilead, and man's relationship with God through John Ames's eyes, Glory Boughton's eyes, and Lila Dahl Ames's eyes...we get Jack's perspective.

It's a little difficult to engage with Jack in his own words, given how prone he is to talking himself or drinking himself out of making good decisions. Tremendously effective book in that, whenever you might start to think "Oh, perhaps things are looking up now!" you, by way of Jack, are *immediately* beaten back down for imagining it.
