"From legendary science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson comes a vision of climate change unlike any ever imagined. Kim Stanley Robinson is one of contemporary science fiction's most acclaimed writers, and with this new novel, he once again turns his eye to themes of climate change, technology, politics, and the human behaviors that drive these forces. But his setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world--rather, he imagines a more hopeful future, one where humanity has managed to overcome our challenges and thrive. It is a novel both immediate and impactful, perfect for his many fans and for readers who crave powerful and thought-provoking sci-fi stories"-- Provided by publisher.

More science than fiction, but still excellent! submitted by TeacherN on June 28, 2021, 9:59am This book imagines what might happen if we had an international organization called the Ministry for the Future, meant to protect future generations from the devistations of climate change. It helped me believe that the world can work together to make positive change, but it won't be easy!

Almost like a how-to manual submitted by severian on August 23, 2021, 7:12pm I'm a huge Robinson fan, and am basically on board with anything he writes at this point. This one is really fascinating, in that it handles climate change not in the distant future, but in the next 30 to 50 years or so. It's almost like he's giving us a how to manual of what kinds of adjustments we're going to make. I didn't connect so strongly with the characters in this one, but if you're interested in reading serious fiction about climate change (that doesn't just throw up its hands and get all apocalyptic and hopeless), you might like this.

Ponderous and hopeful submitted by mowjac on June 11, 2022, 5:33pm I've never read Robinson, but wanted to read a climate change novel that wasn't full of despair. The opening chapter is devastating; and yet the way the character's story unfolds after is a bit unrealistic based on current trauma treatment. I appreciated the varied points of view, found much of the economic information dense and unnecessary and it dragged the narrative down. Also very top down thinking, which makes it more unbelievable to this reader.

Well researched submitted by lballard on July 19, 2022, 5:05pm This was an interesting story with a ton of densely packed information. Some of the projects he writes about have been tried in other contexts. It was informative but also had a wonderful story. The beginning is painfully close to our present.

Oddly hopeful submitted by cnaheedy on July 24, 2022, 7:47pm For a book that starts quite tragically and related to a very sensitive subject, I found myself quite hopeful having finished it. It goes by very quickly, even though it is a longer read. Highly recommend!

What could happen if we are lucky submitted by Jannana37 on July 3, 2023, 1:46pm This book starts with a horrendous heat wave, worse than anything our world has seen to date.
Subsequent events often mirror things that are happening in our world, how various nations take global warming seriously or not, put selfish wants ahead of the common good, but eventually come together with actions that will save humanity.
Like all of Kim Stanley Robinson’s books, the writing is superb and drew me in. Highly recommended!
