"A new collection from an acclaimed author weaves together the real and unreal, fairy tale, sci-fi, and myth"--Provided by publisher.
In a nimble dance of lightness and gravity, Bynum explores the range and contradictions of our current moment. Through school fairs, indie-film stars, and capitalist shell games she weaves together the real and unreal, fairy tale, sci-fi, and myth, exposing the roots of our most abiding terrors and delights. -- adapted from jacket

beautiful, thoughtful, a little bit haunting and a little bit hopeful
submitted by nemiller on July 10, 2025, 11:01pm
I loved each individual story, especially the one about the ancient king, and I also loved the way the stories interacted with each other thematically. They all in some way centered on the ways we try to connect, and try to understand each other, the ways we succeed at both and the ways we fail. The way love is built, day by day, from small, unassuming kindnesses. The way betrayal is built much the same way.
Recommended to anyone who likes thoughtful, quietly vibrant short stories, that will stick with you long after you read them.
