COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A good adaptation submitted by bec on June 25, 2021, 7:33am I grew up on the original series, since we watched and read a lot of UK media to learn about where our parents were from. I have a lot of nostalgia for the 1978-90 show, but it's pretty clear that there's real room for improvement (the housekeeper never has a first name? Helen is replaced with an entirely different actress and as James's wife essentially fills in as his mother??). I think this new series makes good steps in that direction, giving characters and the community new depth and working through new plot lines while also retreading familiar ground from Herriot's autobiography as a country vet in rural interwar Yorkshire. And, of course, lots of beautiful Yorkshire landscape. It'll never be the coolest or most exciting thing on television, but I can see why it was a pandemic hit.

Nicholas Ralph is a superb James Herriot submitted by yufamily on June 25, 2021, 10:51pm The stories are warm and full of wonders... A must see entertainment.

Excellent series submitted by Angela Argento on August 3, 2021, 7:57pm Really enjoyed this version of the classic book.

Lovely feel-good series submitted by umich.reader on June 12, 2022, 4:25pm A lovely feel-good series with a lot of cute animals.

A bit of saccharin but with good scenery submitted by 21621031390949 on June 20, 2022, 11:45pm Pretty weak, boring show, even if you love animals. Good for family TV though. It’s sweet and gentle and everything works out well in the end. Kind of like “Lassie” but with prettier scenery.

Nice series with good characters submitted by annabanana11 on July 9, 2022, 9:07pm I like this series, it's a little exciting but also just makes you relaxed and happy

So Good submitted by madisen_stewart on July 14, 2022, 5:45pm Finally watched this one after all the rave reviews and it lives up to the hype. So sweet and nice. A very wholesome series, but not one without its conflicts.
