Uplifting and Lyrical submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2022, 6:57pm Amanda Gorman’s poetry has a very lyrical quality to it, making it perfectly suited to a picture book. The visual theme feels a little detached from the text of the poem, but the illustrations tell a compelling story that comes together nicely over the course of the book and resonates at the end. Inspiring and ultimately uplifting, the poetry stands on its own without the visual element, but the pictures do help ground readers in a concrete story and, perhaps, encourage some reflection on how our own change can sing in the world.
