Smart scifi submitted by sjarvis on June 25, 2021, 1:06pm I don’t read a lot of science fiction, but I love a good story. And this is a great story! The book smartly weaves in a lot of science and math to make the fictional aspects of space travel and a very creative alien planet more believable. Honestly, I loved it. I wanted to write the ending a bit differently and so I’m rating it 4/5 stars. But that’s just me. Maybe it will be 5/5 for you!

Loved It! submitted by AGregorka on June 28, 2021, 6:00pm I really enjoyed The Martian so was very excited to get into this one. Amazing story, had me chuckling out loud along the way, touching, and smart. Would highly recommend to a number of audiences!

Perfect if you liked The Martian submitted by mwatson on July 8, 2021, 3:12pm If you're a fan of Andy Weir's first book, The Martian, you'll like this one too. The main character takes the same nerdy glee as Mark Watney in conducting experiments, solving problems, and explaining complicated scientific concepts in a funny and easy-to-understand way. (Also, the scenes of "I have to fix this thing that broke before it kills me" that made up 90% of The Martian? Yep, there's plenty of that here too.) It's hard to talk about the plot without spoiling it, since almost everything is unknown at the beginning and information is slowly revealed to the reader. Suffice it to say that the suspense of the first third or so of the book makes it impossible to put down as you follow twist after twist, and even when the breakneck pace finally slows down a little, it is still fun, interesting and very high-stakes.

I really don't like SciFi, but I LOVED this submitted by ktscott on July 18, 2021, 5:45pm I was in a book club when I read The Martian. I chaffed against it. I didn't want to read it. I was going to hate it. I had to apologize to my friend who suggested it because ultimately I LOVED it. So when I saw that Andy Weir had another book out, I had to read it. And I loved it again. It follows the same type of general scene in The Martian-- intrepid, intelligent man is stranded somehow alone in space, but it works again. If this is his general plot, he makes it work time and time again. Enjoy this super read!

A little less grounded in reality than The Martian, but that's a good thing submitted by bahr on July 23, 2021, 10:39pm I couldn't put this book down. It was in many ways familiar, as Weir repeats his familiar style of problem solving. In this book there are some improbable leaps that set up the problem in the book, but I don't find it an issue at all. I was just surprised that Weir had taken that risk and it paid off. The science is quite accessible too, as Weir explains things through the story, but in a very natural way. I really hope that Weir writes a sequel set in the same universe as Project Hail Mary because this one left me hungry for more!

Weirdly loved this one! submitted by mmohal on June 10, 2022, 10:24am Science fiction can go in a lot of different directions. Sometimes it's so realistic, it could plausibly be non-fiction, and in this case it's not super grounded in reality but I still enjoyed it. There's a fine line where sci-fi is so unrealistic that it completely turns me off, but the character development and the background themes kept me engaged and emotionally invested.

Not usually what I go for... submitted by Zekicmom on June 16, 2022, 5:02pm ....but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was so interesting and thought provoking and even thought there weren’t many characters for most of the story, they were enough. I really cared about them and was very invested. I was thinking about this one for a long time after finishing it.

Heartwarming, un-put-down-able book submitted by gtaylor on June 18, 2022, 9:44am After seeing dozens of rave reviews about this book, I picked it up still feeling a bit skeptical. I'm not into sci-fi, and the technical explanations can get cumbersome at time. But Weir places us into the adventure from page one. I became so caught up in the characters, the mystery of their backstories, and the high stakes of their task that I could not stop reading. It's lengthy, but so worth it! I can not recommend this book highly enough.

LOVE submitted by vvergoth on July 20, 2022, 4:25pm This is the kind of book that I would recommend without hesitation, and without saying much to not give anything away. I've had some folks comment that they didn't pursue it because they were worried it would be too scientific. Don't worry! The story will sweep you up and keep you fully engaged throughout.

Why can't I make friends with an alien in space? submitted by bookasaurusray on July 27, 2022, 12:17am As someone who doesn't read a ton of scifi, I really enjoyed this. Also, I found myself crying over an alien, so there's that.

Great book for any reader submitted by vanwerte on July 29, 2022, 12:55am I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read - you don’t have to love sci-fi to love it. It’s thought provoking, interesting, and also suspenseful at times. Such a well written book!

Hilarious, touching, can't put down submitted by giffinka on August 26, 2022, 2:46pm This book was absolutely fantastic! I was a bit worried that his new book wouldn't live up to the greatness that is The Martian, but honestly I think Project Hail Mary is even better! It was hilarious and heartwarming. We are introduced to one of my all time favorite characters. The mystery hooked me too and I couldn't stop reading to find out what would happen next. Definitely check this one out!

A Wild Ride submitted by rylawton on June 9, 2023, 1:04pm I absolutely adored this book -- I couldn't put it down. The characters are delightful, the plot is gripping, and the ending is just fantastic. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoyed The Martian or who is interested in speculative science fiction!

Best Sci-fi I've read in ages submitted by renarde7 on June 14, 2023, 11:39am This is Andy Weir doing what he does best: science-forward sci-fi with humor and heart. I laughed, I cried, and I immediately wanted to read it again.

Project Hail Mary submitted by NShields01 on June 14, 2023, 9:08pm Wow! Not usually a sci-fi person, but this made me laugh AND cry and now I really want to read The Martian!

Gripping submitted by kathscot on June 21, 2023, 7:36am An exciting story. The protagonist wakes with no memories so the plot moves forward as he discovers his present and remembers his past. The science is made understandable enough for non science majors. Also some interesting moral questions to consider.

Fantastic submitted by schweiml on July 14, 2023, 7:15pm Another win for Andy Weir. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was unique, well written, with just the right amount of science/math in there. The characters were easy to connect to (and unexpected!). Not sure where I saw the store going or ending up, but I was definitely surprised more than once.

Delightful submitted by Emily LB on July 17, 2023, 8:26pm I typically don’t gravitate toward science fiction, but this was a book club read and I am so glad I gave it a try! This book captivated me from page 1. And I have found myself reflecting on it in idle moments months later. 4/5 strong recommend.

Really good submitted by berger_d on July 29, 2023, 5:09pm I have recently returned to reading "hard" science fiction, and really loved this book. I was immediately swept up in the world that was built here and found myself at the edge of my seat, unable to put this down as the tale slowly unfolded along with the primary relationship of the story. This is one of those books that caused me to stay up reading until 4 AM because I needed to know what was next! 5/5 all the way.
