"Astrid is training to go to space! But as she builds her shuttle, cooks astronaut food, and practices floating in zero gravity, Dad tells Astrid that the ship's construction is too dangerous, she's too little to cook alone, and she's not allowed to flood the bathroom. That night, when Astrid dreams she's an astronaut, the challenges she encounters are overwhelming. Astrid realizes she isn't as ready as she thought. Back on Earth, Astrid turns to her loving and supportive Dad, who helps Astrid continue her astronaut training" -- Amazon.

One Cannot Simply Fly into Space submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 10:16am This picture book follows a young girl who decides to undergo her own personal astronaut training with materials she finds around the house, with mixed success until she enlists the help of her father. The story flows nicely, with parallel beginning and ending sequences bookending a wonderful dream sequence in the middle that encourages readers to dream big while showcasing beautifully illustrated imaginary worlds. The astronaut theme fits really well with the message, and the pictures are bright and appealing, adding some contextual references for Astrid’s dreams and providing a humorous contrast to the text.
