Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned and it's up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good. However, along her journey, she'll learn that it'll take more than dragon magic to save the world; it's going to take trust as well.

Raya and the Last Dragon submitted by quynhssong on July 30, 2022, 9:01am I'm Vietnamese and Korean, and I saw so so so much culture in this movie. The food, especially. :) It makes me really happy to see some representation in movies! The plot line was amazing, it was funny, and the movie is now one of my new favorite movies. YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT!!! I would say all ages could watch this. A good place to look for amazing reviews is commonsensemedia.org

Decent enough that we love it submitted by KimB on August 25, 2022, 1:51am Despite being animation, this film had the feel of being "covid made." It seemed to try to get by with a lot less (story, action, characters) than the pre-covid entertainment we once had. Still, my kids have watched it a dozen times and incorporate elements of it into their play. The animation is lovely. It's mostly fantasy, but there are some real Asian cultural references. The lead hero and the (not-villian? anti-hero?) are both female and there isn't any nonsense about overcoming their femininity to advance the story, it's a complete nonissue. There are also no romance focuses or evil stepmothers or damsels in distress. In the end, they weren't really fighting evil, they were fighting the human urge to separate into "us" and "them" and then to distrust or fight those deemed "others." Altogether, a great story!
