An Old Listens to the Radio submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 6:57pm Because I am Old and Grumpy and Do Not Listen to the Radio Very Much, I found a lot of the main event singles here to be awfully repetitive; I’d listen for a few minutes and realize belatedly that the album had moved onto a new track without bringing me along with it. Nonetheless, a lot of these artists are obviously talented (the album’s standouts are, unsurprisingly, two songwriting women: Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift), and it’s not necessarily their fault that production styles and popularity seem to be in a converging pattern at the moment. The What’s Next section, always a huge question mark on these compilations, is a strong one that plays into the zeitgeist by including a K-pop track. I wish that the editors had been able to come up with more than 16 compelling tracks from the actual charts (and wonder what it says that they cannot), but the bonus here is actually pretty solid. Overall, this ranks better than average, but only just.
