Good Energy, Formless Exploration submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 7:10pm This album has the explosive, inventive energy you expect from a live jazz recording, although the quartet’s tendency toward formless exploration isn’t always particularly pleasant on the ears. Notably, the group incorporates uncommon instruments such as the oboe, sitar, and tabla, which give the music a unique texture and add to the album’s general feeling of experimentation. This particular flavor of jazz is a bit of an acquired taste, and one that I don’t particularly care for, but the album had moments that I enjoyed and, if nothing else, I can appreciate its inventive spirit.
